Title: Southern Pine Beetle (2003)
Length: 30-seconds
Pine trees in north and central Florida
Are vulnerable to attack by an aggressive tree killer,
The Southern Pine Beetle.
During outbreaks, this insect reproduces rapidly,
And can kill millions of pines in a single summer.
The impacts can be devastating.
Rapid detection and treatment
Is the only way to control infestations.
Inspect your pines frequently.
Look for Powder-like boring dust ...
Popcorn-like Apitch tubes in the bark ...
And dramatic changes in needle color.
If you suspect southern pine beetle activity,
Contact your local Division of Forestry office.
