The Florida Agriculture Center and Horse Park was created by the Florida Legislature in 1996. Several years of planning and development produced the Florida Horse Park, a public-private partnership between the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Greenways and Trails. It is located in the center of the state on 500 acres adjoining the Cross Florida Greenway and near Interstate 75, in Marion County, “The Horse Capital of the World.” The park is open year-round and offers international-caliber competition courses and a schedule of world-class events, and has been named an official training site for the United States Equestrian Team.Florida Institute of Phosphate Research

Florida has three climatic regions in which fruit trees may be grown: warm temperate area where peaches, nectarines, persimmons, and blueberries may be grown; subtropical areas where citrus and moderately to very cold hardy subtropical fruits such as loquat, lychee, guava, and avocado may be grown and; warm subtropical/tropical areas where less cold hardy fruit trees such as banana, atemoya, carambola, and mamey sapote may be grown. The Tropical Research and Education Center of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), University of Florida, is located in Homestead about 30 miles south of Miami. The Center was established in 1929 by an act of the Legislature. Research, teaching, and extension programs focus on tropical and subtropical fruit crops, tropical and temperate vegetable crops, and ornamental crops of southern Florida. Due to the region's humid subtropical climate, TREC is the only state university research center in the continental U.S. focusing on a large number of tropical and subtropical crops. Also, the area's oolitic limestone soil is unique to extreme southern Florida. In addition, the Center addresses water and environmental issues that impact crop production over a shallow aquifer and in proximity to Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Marine Park, Florida Bay and major well fields which provide drinking water to the several million people in neighboring urban areas.
